75 | 20023 | I had IMM with this professor, and although he's a nice guy, I can't give him more than a C. He has a very dry humor, and I felt that the material was not presented in the best way. I went into that class knowing HTML, CSS, Javascript & Design and think I could have taught a lot of the concepts better than he did. The last half of this course, you spend flying through programs like Dreamweaver, Adobe Fireworks, Adobe Photoshop, and a few miscellaneous programs learning how to push the right buttons to do things, not really learning teh concepts behind javascript, or HOW or WHY rollovers work, etc. Rushing through these concepts, along with frames, the last 2-3 weeks of class, was the turning point. The last practical is a killer. I knew exactly what I was doing and used the full 2 hours. People were getting up left and right, cursing, and leaving. The last practical is ridiculous and covers way too much material. Although, I am female and Wheeland respected me and the other 2 females in my class, even though I goofed off the entire time... (I got a 4.0 in IMM) I would seriously research my options before taking him for IMM. |
99 | 20023 | Excellent teacher. Teaches you what you need to know and what is interesting. Great for IDM. Pulls no tricks on the tests or practicals. Funny sense of humor. Great guy! |

65 | 20023 | I had him for IMM and he just drones on for 4 hours straight. That class made me want to stab my eyes out. |
99 | 20023 | Good guy, nice, teacges well, grades fairly, but reccomendation |

95 | 20023 | I loved going to Professor Wheelands class. You can tell that he knows his stuff. The class is a bit rushed but I found thats what you get when you are in a quarter system. His grading is pretty lenient and as long as you meet the requirements of all the projects you will get at least a B. His lectures sometimes make me want to fall asleep but I know this stuff already. Overall He does a very good job teaching the students. |
68 | 20023 | he is okay. he has a long lecture with limited in-class exerices for classmates. |
99 | 20012 | Great Teacher! Had him for Human Factors; Learned an exceptional amount and we had a TON of fun. It seems like a lot of work, but it's a lot of group work and goes pretty easily and quickly. Highly recommend this Prof. |
91 | 20012 | I am basing this on having Andy for IDM and human factors. To start this off, I hated human factors, and am still in the process of hating it. However, I found Andy's grading to be fair, and as a response to him saying a C is average, he gives rubrics that explain his definition of average, and it is a pretty poor showing. I would take him again. I liked him for IDM, I tolerated him for human factors (which wasn't his fault). I recommend him. |
88 | 20012 | Never had him....i'm just using this to ask to get Sean Boyle put on here....oh man, I can't WAIT to vote on that.. |

99 | 20012 | great proff. Loves to teach and is very amusing. Great for IMM... |
75 | 20012 | He was ok. Doesn't have a lot of respect for non-IT majors or females (I think this along with 2 other female friends that have had him for class). He grades saying C is average, which is ridiculous for most of us who need to keep over 3.0 for scholarships. I worked my butt off in his class but could not get more than a B. |
71 | 20012 | I didn't mind him until he told me that I was doing poorly in his class because I wasn't PAYING ATTENTION. Apparently if you look at the floor instead of him when he's talking he docks you points, despite the fact that you do all of the work and do well on tests. What can I say, he's boring and the only guy that laughs at his jokes is the TA. |
48 | 20012 | I'm in his class right now as I'm writing this. This guy is terrible. He tries, I think, but he doesn't do a very good job. If you like a teacher who does all the work for you, and then expects you to duplicate it (of course, after he doesn't teach you how to do it), take him for IDM! If you wanna learn, take Boggard, I hear he rocks. He doesn't follow his own rules (ex. his coding standards), and is really bad at explaining things. He talks for a good 3 hours of the 4 hour class (YAWN). Very boring. He doesn't even grade his own papers. I had high expectations, and if the material wasn't as fun as it was, I'd sink even lower. Don't take him. |
91 | 20012 | I thought he was kinda cool when I took some classes with him back in the day.
Plus, he actually uses a REAL computer (i.e. a MAC). |
99 | 20011 | Great guy, one of us, yes, the material is boring but any prof would have that problem |
75 | 20004 | I took Human Factors with Andy. Unlike most people I found the class interesting. The research paper which was 40% of my grade was due 4 weeks in to the course. I really don't understand how hard can it be to grade a paper in 6 weeks. I ended up finishing up the class not knowing what I got on the paper. That's nonsense considering he had a grader. |

99 | 20003 | Andy Helped me out by giving me an "I" when I was in the hospital. I found him to be a caring individal and his class structure to be informative and not boring. I think that the people who found him boring may have a greater intrest in surfing the web for "inapropriate materials" and playing quake then learning anything useful. |
85 | 20003 | "Sleepy time" Is what you can call his class. But if by some miracle you manage to stay awake the guy knows what he is talking about. He is a computer geek like you and me. Not all that good on getting assignments back. |
95 | 20003 | Cool Professor...Very helpful...fair grader...but takes his own sweet time to return the graded projects. I might consider to take him again. He is very helpful too. |
99 | 20003 | This professor knows his stuff. His assignments were well thoughtout and prepared. I learned alot from him. |
99 | 20003 | Andrew is a very good professor. I found him very knowledgeable, helpful and organized. I am suprised he doesn't have a higher grade- but when you teach a lot of Freshman courses, you get all kinds of people as students. Two minor criticisms: He is slow in returning the assignments and didn't tell us the grading criteria until after he had returned them to us. He's a great professor though-I would definitely take him again. |
85 | 20003 | nice and friendly. seems a bit nervous at times. the numerous handouts describing projects were useful and easy to read. uses powerpoint too much though. |
99 | 20003 | Actually, Professor Wheeland was one of the best professors I've had here at RIT. Grant it, his lectures can be a tad on the boring side, but think about what hes teaching here, HTML is not something to shoot fireworks over and leap around the room about. He did a very good job teaching the classes, I had little knoweldge about the subject and i earned straight A's. His work was fair, he wasnt a harsh grader, and I liked when he made mistakes because it gave me an opportunity to see the pitfalls Im going to undoubtdly have someday (and how to fix them). |
81 | 20002 | I suppose I learned a lot in IDM, but I don't know if it was due to the teacher. He makes a lot of mistakes, learning from those is helpful. Takes forever to get some grades back. Little weird too, but that isn't always bad. |
81 | 20002 | |
71 | 20002 | I guess he is a nice guy, although he seemed to take a distinct dislike to me, even though I tried not to do anything anoying. I did all my work, got all A's, but he seemed to have some sort of grudge. I think he is a fairly good teacher, and I am not baseing my grade off his dislike of me, but the subject matter of the course made it almost impossible to like. It could have been a lot better, but his extremely dry lecture/powerpoint style of teaching just puts you right to sleep. |
53 | 20002 | This man is a complete and utter moron. He reads straight from the book and presents the material in such a dull and boring fashion it is a chore to stay awake. He is easy but its not worth the ridiculous boredom to even bother taking a class with him. Avoid at all costs! |
91 | 20002 | |
78 | 20002 | lectures are definitely borring and the lectures could be structured better. More in class labs would be helpful. I think he knows alot, but is difficult to learn from..especially if you are not an IT major. |
71 | 20002 | |
88 | 20002 | |
78 | 20002 | link of like being tought by a student, but very firendly. |
75 | 20002 | Had him for 409. He is difficult to learn from because he makes a lot of mistakes while he teaches. Takes forever to get grades back. Very nice guy though. |
88 | 20002 | Andrew is good in some classes, and not so good in others. He tries to help out whenever possible, but sometimes gets absorbed in small details. He is bad with getting grades back however. |
85 | 20002 | Andy takes the time to answer questions and takes the times to help out students. He is definately not making the students lives miserable. However is is fairly boring. Day dreaming is definately something that many people do during his class. |
99 | 20002 | i like him a lot. straight forward and to the point. assigns work at fair times. keeps you focused. funny dude too. |
95 | 20002 | |
85 | 20001 | heard from friend he can't teach at all... |
99 | 20001 | I took Andy's Director (330) lab section last year, and I really loved the class. He focuses on examples, rather than dry lecture material, and if you're completely confused, he'll do everything it takes to help you understand - as long as you're willing to put in your share of effort. Makes class fun, but not at the expense of learning. RIT needs more professors like this! |
99 | 20001 | Excellent teacher. very funny and friendly too |
88 | 20001 | |
99 | 20001 | Great professor. Friendly, and funny. Covers material effectively. Easy to understand. |
95 | 20001 | Had for 330 class. Very energetic professor. Keeps you focused and constantly learning about the material. |
