99 | 20012 | I'm loath to say much of anything about Cliff here, since he'll surely read it and bring it up in class. Every year I have one class that makes a difference: last year it was Bob Heischman's drawing class which got my head on straight about rendering form and anatomy, this year it's Cliff's 2D class. 90% of the time I want to pull my hair out while doing his assignments, but I've gained a solid understanding of color, art theory, and hard work. His crits sting all of the time, but when you get over the overwhelming dread of having your assignments publicly stripped down to the bs underneath there's much to be learned. And you won't screw around next time.
Take this class only if you actually care about doing well. If you're a slacker, waste your time somewhere else, because you won't be tolerated. |
99 | 20012 | Cliff is awesome!! He really inspires you to work your hardest! He's one of the best teachers here at RIT. |
99 | 20012 | Cliff's class is the only class I have ever had in my entire life that I could see a definite improvement from when I started it to now... and were not even halfway through the year. I dont know what hes doing but hopefully he will keep it up. |
99 | 20012 | He's a punk. And when he says that you had better bust your ass you damn well better bust your ass. As it is I have learned more abou life and art in general in that class than my whole education in public school. Damn skippy |
99 | 20012 | DO NOT take his class if you can't handle a brutally honest crit. However, if you truly want to get better at just about anything, Cliff is the man. I was only in his class for a quarter, but I learned so much. |
99 | 20012 | Cliff is the most inspiring teacher i have ever encountered. he is so extreamly committed to everything he does and he is an amazing person. dont take his class if your not willing to give 100% all the time. |
48 | 20011 | Very condescending, not to mention bleeding heart liberal, who isn't even that good of an artist despite what he'll tell you. I can't begn to go into how many things are wrong with this man's teaching style. Anyone who tells you he is a genius is probably a moron themsleves. Moreover, no way he took on six bouncers. |
99 | 20011 | Cliff is one of the only foundations professor who gives a decent critique. That is one of the major flaws of the RIT program, and more professors should be like Cliff. |
99 | 20003 | Flat out, best teacher I've ever had. Taught me that art is about life and discovering yourself. He showed us what art is, as an intellectual medium. He taught me to see with my eyes open and I will always value his opinion. |
99 | 20003 | Cliff is the best professor I've had and he is one of a kind. I know people who sit in on his class for no credit. He makes you think and you'll be a better person for having known him. |

99 | 20003 | Clifford is the most intelligent man I know. He can and will make time to talk to you about any subject. He is sensitive to each individual in his classes, making each class a new and insightful experience. I have learned more about life, artwork and myself in one year in his class than I would have thought possible. He teaches a great work ethic and from that one cannot help but improve. He also tries to teach us to be sensitive, honest and sincere in everything we do which will help us in every aspect of our lives. |
88 | 20003 | He is a good teacher but he likes to teach from his life experiences more than from fact, which is good for some people but not all. He likes to talk about himself but has really good thought and ideas about art. He references art history which makes you realize that it is important. Rather exuberant. |
99 | 20003 | cliff has taught me more about art and insight than anyone. he has amazing stories from his life that tie into the classes. He brought the potential in me. Coolest teacher i have ever known in my life!!! |
