9520023This professor totally changed my attitude about philosophy. He ran his class extremely well, kind of on the laid back side and didn't assign a ridiculous amount of work. This is the first 8am class that I have not wanted to sleep through. He keeps it interesting with the discussions and relates well to students. I would definitely take another class from him.
9920023Dr. Capps is a thoughtful, brilliant man. Philosophy with him is a real treat.

9920012I've had Professor Capps for two classes now, and I'm trying to find a way to get a Philosophy minor by taking classes that only he teaches. He is THAT good of a professor. No matter what the topic, he keeps it interesting for the class, letting us discuss freely whatever assignment we had to read. There are a few papers but they aren't bad because you simply convey your own philosophy on stuff. Take a class with him even if you don't have to fulfill any requirements.
9920012Great professor for Intro to Philosophy! He covered various philosophical theories including those of Socrates, Plato, Descartes (ever wanted to know the meaning behind "I think, therefore I am"?), Wittgenstein and others. He always made sure we understood the subject and encouraged discussions. He also returned graded assignments very quickly and used a consistent format.
9920012Wow. Opinion of Philosophy before Prof. Capps: A boring, useless crap class to fill a worksheet spot. After: A rich, vast and expansive field where you can't be wrong, as long as you can support your ideas. Intro to Phil. runs from Ancient work (Plato) right up to the beginning of the 20th century (Ayer, Wiggestein). If you want to experience a new, diverse field with great amounts of potential for self discovery, take Prof. Capps.
9120004This teacher loves what he does, which is a very important quality in teachers. Lots of boring essays assigned, but no one had to read them b/c he sums them up the next class. Extremely easy tests, but (for me at least) tough grader on essays. PLENTY of time for you to talk, so take this class if you love sharing your opinion on things.

I really enjoyed his class. I felt I learned quite a bit about myself and the subject of Political Philosophy. I enjoyed they way he ran the class. The first half was discussion and the secon half was lecture. Great teacher.
9920003Class was very enjoyable thanx to Prof. Capps! the discussions were definitely a good way to stimulate thought and promote class participation.
9520003Again, a very engaging teacher, very thought stimulating.
9520002A very enthusiastic and engaging teacher. Encourages broad dicussion (which seems to be a rarity here) and is always prepared to challenge students with new ideas and viewpoints. The out-of-class work--a mix of questions from the text and papers on reading assignments--was well balanced for the course.
