91 | 20023 | Bautista wasn't the greatest ever, but then again, can anyone really be? I'm an NTID student, but I don't sign at all. I had him for calc IV and Diff Eqs, and did quite well in both of them. His quizzes are unnannounced, but you can guess when they will be rather well, they are intended to make sure you keep up to date. His accent was not a problem at all for me, even though I'm a regular white american. Hmwk is not graded or collected, grades generously at times. |
88 | 20023 | I had him for diff eq. The quizzes are on random days, and if you've done the homework it's really easy. I had a two-hour class two days a week instead of one hour for four days so if a quiz wasn't on monday, it was on wednesday. ( which may have made the quizes not seem as unpredictable )
His tests are harder, but the math department made him adjust his teaching style so he made up to 40% of the test student submitted problems. His questions are homework problems with few twists thrown in to make sure you aren't blindly memorizing steps. There is a mix of theory and application, so you should at least know of reasons why you are you will need what you learn. I would definitely take him again. Oh, and you must do the homework! |
99 | 20023 | |
65 | 20023 | I think he is passionate about Math; I had him for Cal IV. But I don't understand anything he teaches. He encourages questions, but if you ask something he thinks is the basics he will try to embarass and lecutre about how you and the other students should know these "common facts". Tests are extrememly hard, quizes are okay if you do homework and pay attention to him in class. I don't want to be unfair and give him a bad grade, but I honestly can not stand his teaching style. It's sad when faculty and students already say before you get in his class that you are going to have a hard time or fail! |
95 | 20023 | Having had Dr. Bautista for Diff Eq last year, I must say that he is not nearly as bad as most think he is. He explains the material in a straightforward, problem-oriented manner. His presentation is clear, quizes not hard, and tests fair. If you do your homework and keep an ear or two open during class, you'll most likely fare well. |
85 | 20012 | good teacher up at board, challenging tests. he does have an accent but it is very minor. you need to be smart not studious for this class, test problems are far more advanced than practice problems in book(though higher problems may help #60+). tests are hard, but he is very fair with partial credit. dont count on scaled grades he gives minimal points if everybody flunksa test. random quizzes, but are predictable based on material covered so far, easy to moderate difficulty on these. |
48 | 20012 | This guy is the devil. He is not nice to his students and he just doesnt care. His teaching style is difficult to grasp and his exams are rediculous. Quizzes are never announced and given back weeks after the following one has been taken. Exam questions are far more difficult then ones practiced in class. Not very helpful outside of class. Avoid this man at all costs. |
99 | 20012 | I had this professor for calculus IV. I feel that Bautista is a great teacher, especially for calculus IV. The way he covers the material is brilliant. He makes you think about concepts from all aspects. He is very open to questions, and is very good with clearing up misunderstandings. I was initially scared when I saw the comments Bautista received. I found out most of them were not true at all. They were just comments from students who were not used to working for their grade. He is a very nice person. Just because someone gets a D in his class does not make him “the devil”. In Bautista’s class you get the grade you earn. He grades in the following way: His quizzes are predictable and are easy if you are keeping up with the homework assignments. I will admit his tests are challenging, but they are not difficult if you keep up with the homework assignments. Since his homework assignments are optional most students get lazy and begin to think they can blow them off. DO NOT DO THAT IF YOU TAKE THIS PROFESSOR, it will result in a poor grade on the exams and the final. If you are taking this professor my best advice is to keep up with the homework assignments daily! If you do that you will learn more than you ever thought possible. I like him so much I am taking him again for Diff Eq this quarter. |
78 | 20012 | Had the guy for an 8am CalcIV class, first college professor I ever had in my college career - scared the crap outta me. If you ask him a question be prepared to have your ass handed back to you. He's got a thick accent and has pop quizzes so be warned. Avoid him if at all possible, but if you get him it's not impossible to get an A. |
48 | 20012 | he is a pain in the a--. If u take Calc III with him you will FAIL. AVOID HIM!
|
48 | 20012 | The WORST professor that I have ever had. I have lost ALL interest in mathematics because of him. Yells at you for asking questions, but expects you to ask them. Extremely hard to understand. He pretty much rewrites the book on the board. Often makes simple mistakes on the board, like adding two numbers together. I've pretty much taught the subject material to myself through the book, and I most likely will get a D or F because I don't understand a thing. A professor's supposed to encourage learning, not make you hate it. Do yourself a favor and avoid this professor at all costs. |
71 | 20012 | Had him for calc 4, never checks homework, gives pop quizzes, and tests are challanging - as a teacher he is frustrating in the fact that he is hard to understand and teaches a style that little people like, out of all of my teachers i would say hes the worst i have ever run into. |
53 | 20012 | My first class ever at RIT was Calc III with Bautista. The first words out of his mouth when he walked into the classroom were, "there is a 50% dropout rate in this class. look to the person on your left. one of you will be here at the end of the quarter." Calc III was review for me and I still only got a C. Hey Bautista, maybe you're a math god, but I'm only 20 years old and I don't spend my weekends studying my calc book. I did the homework and understood the material but guess what, his tests sucked. |
48 | 20012 | He just doesnt care |
48 | 20011 | What's your favorite teaching style? Fail everyone? This seems to be this professor's object in life. Sure, most students pass - with a D. Avoid this one if you would like to keep your GPA intact. |
95 | 20011 | If you do your work you are all set. He is a good professor and with hardwork an A will not pass you by |
48 | 20011 | he knows what hes talking about but cant teach it worth a damn, his tests are difficult and he needs to brush up on his english |
48 | 20011 | I am now in classes that i need stuff bautista teaching too bad he couldnt teach!! This guy is the worst teacher i have ever had!!!!!!!! |
53 | 20004 | |
53 | 20003 | Really nice person. Grades tough, doesn't explain grades or what the correct answer is. Difficult to ask questions. Homework assignments are length and detailed. |
85 | 20003 | He is tough, but not impossible. Just make sure you ask not-obvious questions or he'll get on your case. |
48 | 20003 | i really did not like this man, he yelss at you if you have a question and makes you feel dumb during the reply. He is foregin and is hard to understand. Not to mention he thinks that just because he knows it everybody else should too. He is very errogant and set in his ways, and to have any chance of passing you have to become a trained little monkey. Avoid him if at all possible. |
48 | 20003 | I am giving him an F- and I'll tell you why. It's not because I don't want to work for my grade ( I did get an A in his clac III class BTW ) as the stuck up snob below seems to think, Rather it is because the man can NOT Teach. He does not appreciate questions, will refuse to answer them, and yet will repremand the class for not asking them. Teaches by rewriting the book on the white board ( The book does a better job of betting the point across. Believe me, if you are having trouble in his class, just ignore him and learn from your book, that's what I did ). He is far and away the worst professor I have EVER had. He doesn't teach the subject matter well at all, and is downright rude in his treatment of the students. There is no reason for a person like this to teach |
48 | 20002 | |
48 | 20002 | |
48 | 20002 | Just when you failed the previous tests and had a hard time, you study for days fot the next test, then he throws in trick questions into it just to confuse you even though you know the calc of it. |
85 | 20002 | Tests are very hard......most test and quiz problems come from hw problems that were not asked in class......good teaching ability.....sometimes makes you look stupid in class but outside of class he is very nice about everything |
48 | 20002 | terrible teacher does not really care about the way students earn. if you ask him a question in class it seems as if he hates explaining something and makes it seem like as if he is mocking the fact that you don't understand. |
58 | 20002 | i didn't feel comfortable asking questions. Too critical of the students. |
75 | 20002 | Not as bad as most say, but they're just venting. However, Bautista does have difficulty getting concepts across clearly and concisely. Often, he does not recognize well enough the varying levels of mathematical maturity of his students and adapt accordingly. |
75 | 20002 | I had him for Calc III. We called him "Bruce" 'cuz he always looked like he was about to put a Bruce Lee on ya with a quickness. After taking his class, all other Math classes seem easy, but almost everybody fails his class. |
48 | 20002 | |
48 | 20002 | he sucks, he's confusing, doesnt teach well, this guy can make 1 + 1 = 2 confusing, avoid him |
95 | 20002 | I took Calculus I and Calculus III from him and he is by far the best math teacher I ever had. He explains the material in the clearest possible way and shows you the most modern applications of the subject. You will learn the material properly from him. Yes, his tests are hard but only if you have not done your homework. His test questions are variations of assigned homework problems and he solves lots of problems in class. If you pass his course, I guarantee you will pass any other math course at RIT. If you are lazy and think you can slide by without doing any work, do not take him for you will surely fail and then will be writing obnoxious remarks as a result of your own stupidity. If you go to his office, he is one of the most accomodating professors and will even answer questions in math from other courses. Go see him during office hours even if you are not taking a class from him. I find most of these comments childish, vengeful, in fact libelous and made by cowards who don't belong to an institution of higher education. Most of these people should go back to grade school where they belong instead of lowering RIT's standards and reputation. Most of them cannot even write a simple English sentence, let alone compute 1+1. Oh, I need my calculator for that one but it has run out of batteries!!!! |
53 | 20002 | All you need to know abou this proffessor:
1. His test are hard that is why he has the curve he does. 2. He is hard to understand and is boring. 3. Do not, I repeat do not take his class. He made me hate Calculus. |
48 | 20002 | Whatever you do - DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS. I usually found math easy until I took this class. I ended up teaching myself everything, and I still couldn't do the tests because the questions on them are impossible. |
95 | 20002 | I took Calculus III from him and learned a great deal and faired well in his class. For the students who have slacked through all of their past secondary education, of course this class would be both an annoyance and a frustration. After all, when a teacher makes you earn your grade, a lot of students start to get upset. In the class I took, quizzes are weekly, which helped inspire students to keep on track and always know their material. The bottom line is all the frustrated students below, in their ignorant haste to slap an F- to Dr. Baustista and his teachings, show just how spoiled they have been, never having a teacher that was so motivated and dedicated in his teaching that he cared that each and every one of his students actually LEARN! Respect your teachers and they will respect you too. Work hard in their class and they will work hard for you. If you want an easy A, don't think you can do it by crossing paths with this teacher. But if you want an A that you can work hard for, be proud of, and learn a lot in the meantime, I encourage you to take a course from Dr. Baustista. I'm glad I did! |
85 | 20002 | B His tests are tough, yes, but he gives enough help to allow you to understand and do well on them. He helped me with homework or simply went back over notes in his office with me almost everyday. People complain that he's not helpful yet they don't seek his help. He does not have time to go over every detail in class (only 1 hour) and that is why he stresses OFFICE HOURS. That's what he's there for. I do recommend taking this teacher. Yes his tests will be challenging but isn't that what you expect in R.I.T. Get to know him for yourself, I urge you and see him for help as soon as you see a problem!!!!!!!!! |
48 | 20002 | Doesn't go over homework or quizzes well enough, poor teaching ability |
85 | 20002 | Dont believe everything you read. He isn't that bad of a teacher. He does alot of examples, but he gives hard tests. |
81 | 20002 | He has hard tests, and you have a quiz every week. Sometimes class is hard and he does want you to know some things that everyone just doesn't. HOWEVER, if you go to him outside of class, he is VERY nice, helpful, will answer questions w/o making you feel stupid, and if you go to see him, and just show him effort, you'll do fine in his class. He really is a great guy outside of class. I think some of the test material is a little more challenging then it should be, but all professors have their quirks. |
61 | 20002 | He made Calculus I too hard, even though I already took AP Calculus and aced it in high school. |
53 | 20001 | Worst professor I've had at RIT. If you get stuck with him, try and get copies of this old test and quizzes, that the only way I was able to pass. |
53 | 20001 | This professor was horrible! Very unhelpfull, and does not teach well. Tests are ambigious and unfair. Expect lots of headaches with him. |
53 | 20001 | He seems like he knows his calc very well. But he's arrogant and degrading when people ask questions - hey we're not all professors, yet. I find working on my own more helpful. |
71 | 20001 | He know's what he's talking about and provides good notes and examples, but he seems to think that everybody should be as good as math as he is. If your not, be weary, he'll make fun of you for asking questions to which he thinks the answer should be obvious. His tests are also pretty difficult. |
