99 | 20023 | Actually I am Giving him A+++++++ . |
99 | 20023 | Awesome! Had him for Modern American History. We'd read about history in Kennedy's "Freedom From Fear" book each weekend and review the concepts in class, usually followed by a movie. We'd get a simple written quiz once per week and were allowed to use the Kennedy book while taking the quiz. The midterm was a take-home paper (5 to 6 pages long) and had an entire week to work on it (open notes and open book). Course involved some simple class discussion to share opinions and think of new ideas or reasons that caused events to take place in history. |
99 | 20023 | I had him for History of Love Canal and the American Environment. Great professor I thought. He really made me thing a lot. If you want a class where you can memorize everything and spit it back out you'd better avoid him. |
95 | 20023 | He gave me a B, which is pretty damn fair since I didn't study so I recommend him to anyone |
95 | 20012 | Very good knowledge of African-American history. Recommened as a history prof. |
99 | 20012 | Professor Newman is one of the best professors I have ever had from the liberal arts college. He has so much enthusiasm during each lecture that I was so excited to go to his class each week. I highly recommend him. |
99 | 20012 | Professor Newman is awesome. He lectures only on relavent information that is interesting to the students. His midterms and finals are based upon material in class only and he is a very fair grader. I have taken 2 classes with him, and will continue to take more! |
91 | 20011 | I had Rich for American History and very much enjoyed his class. He has a midterm and a final, both take-home essay exams. Other than that he has several small essays that he does at the beginning of class that he says are "largely for attendance purposes". I would recommend taking him if you need a history class. |
99 | 20011 | Rich Newman, YOU ROCK! I love you the way you teach your class! |
95 | 20011 | He makes history interesting. Take him if you like to write essays. |
95 | 20003 | Makes learning fun and exciting, he tries to mix up class quite a bit. His no test policy is great and he is not a tough grader either. He tries to do things fair and wants you to do nothing but learn the material. I had him for Modern American History. |
99 | 20003 | i've had rich for 2 classes and he is one of my favorite teachers at rit. he knows what he's talking about and his excitment for his subject is passed on to his students. he is really approachable and makes an honest effort to know his students personally |
91 | 20003 | Definitely recommend to anyone taking history. He is intellectually stimulating, and challenges students to think out of the box (about history nonetheless). Adequate work load (at least when I took him in 19992) and very easy going, and humorous at times as well. |
53 | 20003 | Stay away at all cost. His is not a history class. It is a writing and literature class. The only difference is that what you read will be historical documents. |
99 | 20002 | Heh I don't know about Rich being detestable. I thought he gave a very well balanced lecture which was also very interesting. I would recommend him for any class he teaches |
95 | 20002 | Great professor for Modern Am. History and Senior Seminar. Very interesting and always has the students participating in discussions. |
95 | 20002 | I took Modern American History with professor Newman at 8 am. It was his first quarter teaching at RIT. Dispite the fact that the room temperature was consistently below freezing he managed to keep me awake and motivated throughout the quarter. |
53 | 20002 | I had Dr. R. Newman for a course on the Civil War and Reconstruction summer quarter in 1998, and I found him to be nothing short of detestable. |
99 | 20002 | I had Newman for Modern American History. His lectures are very intersting, he managed to keep my attention in a 6-10 class. |
99 | 20002 | |
99 | 19993 | I had Rich for Modern American History. He is a very cool guy and interesting to talk to. He makes history class very interesting. Lecture is basically a discussion and occasionally includes films .You will have to write weekly journals so be prepared. He usually gives one test and a take-home final.Rich is always in good mood unless the Buffalo Bills have lost... |
