61 | 20023 | Boring, not very receptive, dont plan on doing well in his class |
99 | 20023 | JRD (Just Rob Duncan, as he introduced himself the first day of IDD) is an amazing teacher...for IDD and Comp Org. He knows his stuff like you wouldn't believe in terms of hardware and low-level programming. However, if you take him for just about anything else, especially CS 1-4, you're probably in trouble. The bonus questoins are sweet too. In fact, my friends named their media computer after the man, the legend, JRD.
GO EAGLES! |
99 | 20023 | I've probably had Duncan more then anybody else here - 3 times. I've gotten all A's those times too. Yeah he may be boring, and the material in lower courses may be even more boring, but he covers it well. The labs are a little tricky, and he can be a strict grader, but his exams are a piece of cake even though I've always studied a lot for them fearing the worse. Not as bad as everybody says he is |
53 | 20023 | How can you learn something during nap time? |
95 | 20023 | Great man! His little puns and sarcasm are awesome, but you have to pay attention for them. Love his "at the beginning of class quote". Would definitely take a class with him again! |
85 | 20023 | In digital design and computer organization he does a fairly good job presenting very boring material. Unfortunately, his tests can be a little on the 'extreme' side of difficult because he doesn't tell you what kinds of questions are going to be on them. If you want to learn the material at the expense of your grade, go ahead and take him, but if you care a whole whole lot about your GPA check else where. However, he is receptive to students coming to office hours and will try his best to help out. |
75 | 20012 | I took professor duncan for digital design and found him a little to boring for me to take at night (translation: I fell asleep in every class). I then had to take him again for computer organization the following quarter (it seems no one else teaches either of these courses) and ended up repeating my performance. He teaches by reading from overheads (which he hands out to you at the beginning of the chapter... which turns out to be helpful if you... uh... sleep through every class). All in all, a nice guy stuck with boring subject matter and a monotone voice. |
78 | 20012 | His tests are really tricky, and he doesn't take crap from anyone.
If you want to learn and get an A, stay away from Duncan. But if you just want to learn, feel free to take a class with him. |
48 | 20012 | Hope you like getting read other professor's notes, because that's all he's gonna do in class. Only reason I passed was because I taught myself the material. WORST TEACHER EVER!! |
99 | 20012 | Professor Duncan is a very good professor. He presents the information in an understandable manner. For the people who say he is boring, they are just don't take an interest in the subject matter so that is a fault of their own. You will have to work for your grade though. If you are willing to do your work and learn a great deal at the same time, take professor Duncan. Just remember, if you like to slack off, stay away! |
81 | 20012 | Very monotone voice made for a very boring class, especially at night. If you can actually keep yourself awake, you'll learn a great deal, though, and even though he is boring, he still has a nice sense of humor that comes about every once in awhile.
His (CS2) exams weren't that difficult, and usually include some sort of bonus riddle. But, because he puts me to sleep, I ended up missing about half the classes. |
48 | 20012 | Worst Teacher on earth..Well not just worst Prof but worst human being. I don't know how he manages to have life and think of all of the students he runed, crashed.... |
78 | 20012 | He seems to know his material well. He is willing to answer questions the best he can, and his tests are very reasonable. Unfortunately he is about as exciting as a bag of bricks. His jokes are terrible, and nothing he says is interesting, although he tries to be funny. The notes he uses are available online which makes it nearly impossible to get myself to go to class. Luckly he does not care much about attendance. Overall he is not a terrible teacher, but you will be bored to death. |
99 | 20012 | Laid back and easy style, no bullsh*t teaching. Tells it like it is. |
88 | 20012 | Pretty funny guy. Not terribly exciting, but effective. |
68 | 20011 | it seemed like he pretty much doesnt care. also, his lectures are very boring |
71 | 20011 | I've taken programming courses before, but none have compared to the level of boringness that this one has. Duncan speaks very monotone, and seems to go on forever about a simple concept, making sleep a very attractive option during classes. I don't recomend him for lecture. |
53 | 20011 | It's teachers like him that make me wonder why they don't have a voice test for people becoming teachers. Like if your voice isn't at a certain level, you fail and don't get a teaching degree. His test are garbage, his lectures are nap time, and I don't recommend him for anyone trying to learn. |
71 | 20011 | His quiz questions are insane, especially if you've never had programming before. He puts overheads up that no one can see, and then expects you to follow the examples. So not only are the tests impossible, but you have no examples other than the ones in the book to learn from. |
99 | 20011 | Makes you work, talks quiet, but lets you out early once in a while and you will learn the material, overall a good person |
91 | 20004 | In digital design he does a fairly good job presenting very boring material. His tests seem to be impossible at first glance, but almost always you can think the problems through, and are actually pretty easy.
Hint: on any bonus questions, interpret the question as literally as you can. |
75 | 20003 | I'm not sure if it was him or the material, but his class was very boring. It was tough to stay awake, he tries to make it interesting but it doesn't work. My main complaint is the tests. They were too hard. Something like a review sheet, or even sample problems or handouts would have improved everything quite a bit. |
75 | 20003 | He does not seem to care to much if you learn or not. Ducan will just present the material in an understandable fashion and expect you be become an expert. If you want reasonable test questions, then don't take his classes. Otherwise you will be subjected to dry humor and difficult tests |
71 | 20002 | All I gotta say is: Zzzzzzzzzzzz....Zzzzzz |
