88 | 20012 | Sean has a very relaxed teaching style. He isn't the most organized fellow in the world, but his class is pretty fun. He's reasonably solid in his knowledge of the subject matter (in this case, C++ for CS4). |
99 | 20012 | Sean Strout is an easy going, friendly CS guy.
I had him for CS4, and while he admittedly did confess to wanting to finish class quickly, he would never rush anyone or pass over their questions. Sean's such a nice instructor that its hard to find anything mean to say about him. If you like Prof. Tymann for ACS, then you'll probably like Prof. Strout. |
75 | 20012 | It's diffiuclt for me to give Sean a C because he is so easy to like. I had him for CS4, and to his credit, the course is horribly organized. How any teacher could effectively teach that course is beyond me.
Sean is certainly knowledgable about C++ and teaches the material well IN GENERAL. There were a few times when I left the class feeling confused because Sean didn't want to teach, (he wanted to get home and see the hockey game, no lie, he admitted this to the class). That might be Sean's biggest problem, he is so much like a friend that things can tend to get light-hearted, which negates the effectiveness of his lecture. In CS4 in general, you have to learn most of the material yourself, taking Sean for lecture is no different. |
99 | 20012 | Funny professor, and the lectures are interseting.
He's not a hard grader, and can answer questions well. If you've never programmed in C or C++, you might have trouble in this class though. He can fall behind with the labs. |
95 | 20012 | even though this isnt the grade i got..hes a good teacher. He usually has review sessions before tests. If you attend these review sessions and understand it, then you can easy ace the tests. Sometimes the questions on the test are the examples from the review session. SERIOUSLY!!! |
99 | 20003 | Strout is great. Makes class interesting, and is more concerned with the students grasping the material that is important than covering what the CS gods have told him to teach. |
99 | 20003 | Great guy. Really funny. Had him for winter. |
95 | 20003 | Strout know what he's in some cases better than the full time teachers. He kinda lowers himself to our level making the students comfortable. He once brought in a Xerox PDA which never made it past the design phase. You'll leave his class with a great dea lof knowledge, smile on your face, and perhaps a new friend. |
95 | 20002 | Funny, intelligent, and encourages classroom participation. One of the best CS professors that I've had. |
88 | 20002 | |
78 | 20002 | Strout is a good software engineer and cares to teach the material, but not responsive to students. Like the previous student stated, I too emailed him multiple times about a slip up in a project which resulted in me falling a letter grade. I never got a response back. NEVER! (well I tried again 9 months later and he finally wrote back and said it was too late). |
95 | 20002 | Another cool guy. Talked about quake and voodoo graphics in his class. A nice guy, and easy to relate to. Tests are fair, but remember to comment in your programming projects. |
95 | 20002 | I had Sean for CS4 and Software Engineering... definitely one of the best teachers I've had here. He's close to our age, so he's more fun and I think has a better idea of what we're going through at RIT. He presents the material very well and is helpful if you have questions, especially in lab. |
99 | 20002 | Strout is an awesome teacher. Put in your 5 dollars and you'll get back 10! |
91 | 20002 | Awesome professor and just a nice guy. I had him for CS4 and he was very interesting. |
99 | 20002 | awesome class |
99 | 20002 | He makes the material fun, teaches it well, and his tests are not hard at all if you pay attention. |
99 | 20002 | Sean is the MAN! He knows his stuff where C++ is concerned and he makes class fun and entertaining. He doens't appreciate answering really dumb questions, or questions that he just answered a few minutes ago, but who can blame him for that? Take this guys class!! |
99 | 20002 | Very informative, fun, well-prepared, and intersting. Sean Strout makes class good and can turn the most boring topics into a high-level intelligent discussion. |
88 | 20001 | Awesome teacher, very fun to listen to. The only disadvantage is that things are so laid back that there are frequently days when we don't get anything accomplished. |
85 | 20001 | Strout is very cool in class. He's young and informal, but he teaches well and knows his stuff. Don't bother questioning your grades though...my group emailed him multiple times about our project and did not even hear from him. It would have been nice to at least get a response... |
95 | 19993 | |
95 | 19993 | Everyone loves Sean as a teacher because he is very impersonal, casual, and has a good grasp on the material. He is such a nice guy that some get suckered into believing that his tests will be cakewalks, they aren t. They are not that bad, he is just a picky grader.
Overall he is a great teacher. |
